1. Your journey
Play Training Trail, Creekside Dash, Autumn Hollow, Windy Ridge, and First Snow Run. Read the objectives before starting each level. Enemies become faster and respawn more quickly as you progress.
2. Movement and combat
Use the joystick or A/D and arrow keys to move. Press jump twice to double jump, reach platforms, or dodge projectiles. On keyboard, hold G to glide and slow your descent. Face an enemy and attack with the left action button or F.
Acorn ammunition is unlimited, with up to three acorns on screen at once. Higher attack skills add spread shots, homing, ricochets, or bonus damage. Use platforms to reach birds and avoid ground enemies.
3. Supplies, happiness, and lives
Walk into food and water to collect them. Food adds to your carried supplies. Food and water reserves gradually fall as you play; running low can reduce happiness. Enemy hits also reduce happiness. If happiness reaches zero, you lose a life. Losing all lives ends the run.
Use the bottom health button or E to eat carried food and drink when your reserves are low. This restores reserves and happiness. Food you carry into the burrow is added to your winter store; eating carried food leaves less to deliver. The store meter shows progress toward 60 supplies.
4. Enemies and bosses
Watch for snake venom, thrown rocks, beehives, garbage, and bird droppings. Beehives can release attacking bees. Regular enemies return after a delay, so keep moving.
Each level ends with a large boss. Dodge its attacks and keep shooting until its health bar is empty. You must defeat it before entering the burrow. Once it falls, other enemies flee and remaining supplies disappear.
5. Objectives and skills
Each level has three objectives, shown in its briefing and results. Each completed objective earns a Golden Acorn on Normal difficulty; harder modes increase rewards. These are awarded at level completion, rather than collected along the trail.
Open Pause / Skills to spend Golden Acorns on the next skill in the Attack, Defense, or Health tree. Choose one unlocked skill from each tree. Action button labels change to match your equipped skills.
Attack: stronger acorn patterns. Defense: dash, shields, slams, or burrowing. Health: better healing and later passive effects such as regeneration and health gained from hits. Some skill combinations grant a synergy bonus.
Earning Golden Acorns also grants five seconds of Golden Acorn Power: Munk grows, becomes invincible, and pushes nearby enemies away.
6. Difficulty and extra modes
Choose Normal, Hard, Nightmare, or Irontail in the briefing. Higher modes increase enemy speed, health, and damage. Irontail starts you with one life. After completing the campaign, New Game+ offers tougher enemies, while Acorn Trials add room modifiers and a choice to cash out or continue.
7. Pause and audio
Use Pause / Skills or P/Esc to pause and change skills. How to Play opens this guide; Close returns to the same menu. Each level has its own looping music, with action and enemy firing sounds. Music pauses in menus, while paused, and when the game tab is hidden.
